The team altered last week's design plan to make the toy simpler. Rather than a spherical shape, the casing will be a rectangle, as seen in last week's post. This means that rather than focusing on the challenges associated with the spherical shape of the toy, the team can put more effort into other aspects of the toy - the motor and sensors as well as the design of the gears. In addition, the team discussed adding a transparent top to the casing so that the gears/axels cannot fall out.
The team started looking into a competitive product analysis. An internet search yielded a few toys/games that had similar goals - teaching gears and gear ratios - but none that worked the same way. This week, the team looked into how to do an rpm sensor for the final gear. Information was found about an arduino bike speedometer that can be adapted to fit the toy's needs:
